Stigma of Fangirls: A Case Study of BTS ARMY

This paper was admitted into the Sigma Tau Delta 2020 Conference in Las Vegas and the UTK's Exhibition of Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement (EURÄ“CA).

 

The pandemic cancelled both events.

Cultural Rhetorics Anthology

ENGL 494

In cultural rhetorics, we explored our personal identities within this project. As cliche as it is, we contain multitudes and this anthology highlights how the parts of my identity intersect.

Honey Magazine (Social Media)

UTK Student Media

From November 2019 to May 2021, I was EIC of Honey Magazine. In late 2022, the magazine rebranded, and with that rebrand, all of the posts that I and others worked on was scrubbed from the social media.

 

This came without warning, but the work lives on here:

Social Media Ambassador

UTK English Department

For over a year, I was one of the first social media student ambassadors for the UTK English Department and was commissioned after graduation to create branding guidelines.

Hot Topic Rebranding

For this retail consumer science course, the final project was to pick a brand and utilize the concepts from course lectures to create a rebrand event concept.

​

I choose Hot Topic because I love the fandom merch and believe Hot Topic can accomplish greater fandom outreach.

In Rhetoric Writing 355, I conducted research for a series of projects that required looking through a community lens. I picked BTS ARMY--a fandom community--as a community I identify with because I wanted to highlight the non-stereotypical fan narratives.

Ethical Fashion

ENGL 455

A topic of research I have continually expanded upon is ethical fashion. This assignment is my first-ever assignment on the battle between fast fashion and ethical fashion.

McClung Speech Contest - Fall 2018

COM 210

What started as a class assignment became an unbelievable opportunity. I did a speech on the globalization of K-pop as an international topic and made it to the final round as a top 5 finalist.
